The Dalmore Distillery was founded in 1839 by Alexander Matheson, a trader who made his fortune in illegal opium imports from the Far East.
The distillery is located on the northern shores of the Firth of Cromarty, deep in the Scottish Highlands. It has changed hands several times over the years with Clan Mackenzie being in control the longest. Clan Mackenzie is to thank for Dalmore's signature twelve-progned stag included on all Dalmore bottles. The story of the stag goes back to 1263, when the head of clan Mackenzie heroically saved Scottish King Alexander the Third, with a single arrow to end the Stag's attempt.
Dalmore uses water from the River Alness, which flows through the small town of the same name.
The Dalmore Cigar Malt Reserve is an excellent accompaniment to the finest of cigar. It was matured in American white oak ex-bourbon casks and 30 year old Matusalem oloroso sherry butts and then finessed in premier cru Cabernet Sauvignon wine barriques.
Matusalem Oloroso is Rolls Royce of Oloroso Sherries, resting for at least 30 years. These sherry barrels that hold the key to Dalmore's unique taste. The post-maturation in Premier Cru Cabernet Sauvignon barrique wine casks gives the Cigar Malt a further distinctive character.
It's a great whisky, whether you drink with its intended purpose in mind or not.

It's like a dance of fruity citrus notes and smoke in this dry and chocolatey marvel. A wonderful booze to buy, with a long-lasting finish.

This finest Highland whisky must be enjoyed with a cigar, it's really worth it!
Levi Cunningham
This is a whisky that admirably combines refined fruitiness with a hint of smoke. The dark amber color and dry, chocolatey taste intensify the drinking experience, while the long-lasting finish leaves an unusually satisfying impression. If given the chance, I would undoubtedly continue to admire this exceptional Highland single malt scotch whisky.
