Marchesi Antinori Tignanello Toscana IGT 2012 is a distinguished vintage of one of Italy’s most iconic Super Tuscans. Produced exclusively from the historic Tignanello vineyard in the heart of Chianti Classico, it is crafted from the established combination of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The Tignanello vineyard sits at approximately 350 to 400 metres above sea level on calcareous soils rich in alberese and schist, contributing to the wine’s distinctive structure and freshness.

The 2012 vintage displays an intense ruby-red colour with attractive purple highlights. Its complex bouquet brings together spicy notes with red fruit, smoke and balsamic nuances, followed by expressive aromas of cherry, plum, liquorice and rosemary. On the palate, it is powerful yet elegant, offering impressive volume, well-balanced tannins and a harmonious texture. The persistent finish brings together spicy and fruity notes with beautifully integrated oak.

The growing season demanded careful selection both in the vineyard and cellar, resulting in wines of notable character and structure. Following fermentation and maceration, the wine underwent malolactic fermentation in oak before aging for approximately 12 to 14 months in French and Hungarian oak barrels, partly new and partly previously used. The individual lots were subsequently blended before bottling, allowing the finished wine to achieve greater harmony and complexity.

Serve at around 16 to 18°C to allow its fruit, balsamic aromas, spice and integrated oak to fully emerge. For a mature vintage such as 2012, gentle decanting can help separate any sediment and encourage the wine to open, while careful handling will preserve its more delicate aromatic nuances.
