Marchesi Antinori Tignanello Toscana IGT 2011 is a distinguished vintage of one of Italy’s most iconic Super Tuscan wines. Produced exclusively from the historic Tignanello vineyard in the heart of Chianti Classico, it is crafted from the established combination of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Tignanello is renowned for its pioneering role in modern Italian winemaking, being among the first Sangiovese wines to be aged in small oak barrels and one of the first modern Italian reds to incorporate Cabernet varieties.

The 2011 vintage displays an intense ruby-red colour with attractive purple highlights. Its expressive bouquet is led by ripe dark fruit, with generous notes of plum and cherry gradually developing into elegant hints of mint and liquorice. On the palate, the wine is rich and harmonious, balancing vibrant acidity with substantial yet supple tannins. The finish is savoury, persistent and beautifully layered, leaving a long impression of ripe fruit and delicate spice.

The 2011 growing season was warm and relatively dry, requiring careful selection of the grapes during harvest. The Sangiovese was harvested between late September and early October, while Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon were picked according to the individual ripening of each vineyard parcel. Following fermentation and maceration, the wine underwent malolactic fermentation in barriques before aging for approximately 12 to 14 months in French and Hungarian oak, using both new and previously used barrels.

Serve at around 16 to 18°C to allow its ripe fruit, balsamic freshness, mint, liquorice and savoury character to fully emerge. Given its age, gentle decanting can help separate any sediment and encourage the wine to open, while avoiding excessive aeration will help preserve its more delicate mature aromas.
