The Balvenie 12 Years Old - Double Wood

4.6

700 ml
  • Great Stuff!

The Balvenie Distillery is situated just up the road from Glenfiddich on the north side of Dufftown — right in the middle of Speyside. The distillery was build by William Grant in 1892, after previously building the Glenfiddich distillery back in 1886.

William Grant was a cattle herder before he started working as a bookkeeper for the Mortlach Distillery, where he found love for whisky. After 20 years of studying, he bought a field next to Balvenie Castle and embarked on his own unique whisky adventure.

The malt produced by the Balvenie distillery have a fantastic Speyside character that captures both the region and the heart of the distillery itself. Balvenie is still one of a handful of distilleries in Scotland to grow its own barley and use traditional floor maltings.

One of the classic after-dinner malts, Balvenie 12 Year Old Doublewood's extra complexity and richness are a result of a second maturation in fresh sherry casks. A classic, always a pleasure to revisit. (This is also a single malt with the ability to convert a non-whisky drinker with its deliciousness...)

    Spicy, slightly drying, still sweet.

Gristy, supple nuttiness intertwined with spices. Honeyed sultanas and grapes. Hugely inviting.
