“Developing attractively, the 2016 Luce offers fragrances of clove, tobacco and porcini atop baked cherries. It manages to fuse Merlot’s plushness with Sangiovese’s lightness of being in equal measure and is seamlessly assembled, yet not without intriguing tension. The tannins are polished, and irony minerals linger on the finish. A great year in Montalcino. About The Winery

Tenuta Luce is located south-west of the town of Montalcino in Tuscany, near the historic Frescobaldi estate of CastelGiocondo. The winery was created in 1995 as a joint project between Vittorio Frescobaldi and Robert Mondavi, combining the Tuscan winemaking tradition of the Frescobaldi family ( Frescobaldi family started making Tuscan wine around 1308) with the experience of the Mondavi family from Napa Valley. Today the estate is fully owned by the Frescobaldi family, with Lamberto Frescobaldi responsible for its development and vineyard management. The Frescobaldi family has been connected with Tuscany for more than 700 years, owning several important estates in the region and developing vineyards across different Tuscan terroirs.

The estate’s technical director since 2019 is Alessandro Marini, an Italian oenologist with strong ties to Bordeaux. After studying viticulture and oenology at the University of Marche, he continued his training at the Faculty of Oenology in Bordeaux, where he studied until 2019. During this period he also worked with the teams of Château Figeac, Château TrotteVieille and Château Bellefont-Belcier, gaining experience in some of the leading estates of Saint-Émilion. 

Vinification

The flagship wine Luce was created as one of the first wines in Montalcino to combine Sangiovese and Merlot, bringing together the structure and elegance of Sangiovese with the roundness of Merlot.

On the nose, Tenuta Luce 2016 reveals expressive aromas of ripe black cherry, plum, and dark berry, layered with notes of cedar, tobacco, spice, and gentle vanilla from oak maturation. The palate is rich, full‑bodied, and beautifully balanced, offering flavors of dark fruit, chocolate, and subtle earthy undertones supported by polished tannins and vibrant acidity. The finish is long, elegant, and persistent, leaving lingering impressions of fruit, spice, and refined texture.
