About the Winery

San Polo is a Tuscan estate founded in 2001 by Marilisa Allegrini, who expanded her family’s winemaking vision beyond Valpolicella into Montalcino, together with her daughters Carlotta and Caterina. From the outset, the project was conceived around sustainability, respect for nature and a deep understanding of terroir, positioning San Polo as one of the most forward-looking wineries in the area. The estate is located on the southeastern slope of the hill of Montalcino, at elevations ranging from 400 to 450 metres above sea level. The total estate covers 22 hectares, of which 16 hectares are planted to vines.

All vineyards lie within a natural amphitheatre between the hills of Podernovi and Vignavecchia, directly below the winery. The area benefits from a breezy, dry microclimate, with marked seasonal and day–night temperature variations, ideal for preserving freshness and aromatic precision.

The soils are poor and stony, composed mainly of galestro (schistous clay). These conditions naturally limit yields, favouring grape quality and helping to harness the vitality of Sangiovese.

Careful parcelling allows each vineyard to be managed individually, maximising the expression of each site’s unique characteristics.
