JA.AR Oloroso Sherry Single Malt Whiskey

JA.AR Oloroso Sherry Single Malt Whisky: A Rich and Complex Romanian Single Malt

JA.AR Oloroso Sherry Single Malt Whisky is a distinctive Romanian single malt crafted by Alexandrion Saber Distilleries and matured entirely in toasted, certified Oloroso Sherry casks from Jerez, Spain. The casks are seasoned with Oloroso wine for 12 months, allowing the whisky to absorb layers of rich fruit, oak and cocoa character. Bottled at 40% ABV, this expression offers a robust and complex profile shaped by its close relationship with the sherry-seasoned oak.

The nose opens with dried raisins and figs alongside toasted nuts, cocoa and aromatic oak spice. On the palate, rich dried fruit and dark chocolate take centre stage, supported by caramel, roasted nuts and warming spices. Subtle coffee and vanilla notes add further depth, while the finish is robust and lingering, with dark cocoa, dried fruit and gently drying sherry-seasoned oak remaining on the palate.

The Oloroso Sherry cask is central to the identity of JA.AR Oloroso. Unlike the Bourbon Cask expression, which emphasises vanilla, caramel and sweet oak, this whisky is fully matured in Oloroso Sherry casks from Jerez. The Oloroso wine seasoning contributes concentrated dried-fruit, nutty, chocolate and spiced-oak characteristics, creating a richer and darker aromatic profile.

The combination of dried fruit, dark chocolate, roasted nuts and warming oak spice gives JA.AR Oloroso a full and layered personality. Its 40% ABV keeps the texture approachable while allowing the sherry-derived flavours to remain expressive. The balance of fruit, cocoa and gentle oak makes it particularly suited to slow sipping and after-dinner occasions.

For the best experience, serve JA.AR Oloroso Sherry Single Malt Whisky neat in a tulip-shaped whisky glass. A few drops of water can help open its aromatic layers and reveal additional dried-fruit, cocoa and spice notes. It can also be enjoyed over a large ice cube for a slower, chilled serve.

This Oloroso-matured single malt pairs naturally with mature cheeses, roasted nuts, dried figs, raisins and dark chocolate. Its rich cocoa and sherry character also complements chocolate desserts, fruit cakes, caramel desserts and dishes featuring roasted or caramelised flavours. For an after-dinner pairing, serve it alongside a selection of dried fruits and dark chocolate.

JA.AR Oloroso has also received international recognition, including a Silver medal at the 2025 World Whiskies Awards, where its profile was noted for malt, coffee, dark chocolate, dusty oak, nuts, spices and vanilla.

Whether enjoyed neat after dinner in Jumeirah, served alongside dark chocolate in Dubai Marina or savoured during a whisky evening in Downtown Dubai, JA.AR Oloroso Sherry Single Malt Whisky brings a rich Romanian character to the glass. It is equally suited to gatherings in Palm Jumeirah, Yas Island, Saadiyat Island and Al Maryah Island in Abu Dhabi, offering a complex and sherry-driven single malt for whisky tastings, celebrations and relaxed entertaining.
