About The Winery

Château Lynch-Bages is a historic Cinquième Cru (Fifth Growth) estate in the Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux, first established on the Bages plateau in the mid-18th century and recognised in the 1855 Classification. The estate’s modern identity has been shaped by the Cazes family, who have owned Lynch-Bages since 1939, with leadership today under Jean-Charles Cazes, representing the fifth generation of Cazes involvement in the property. Since 2020, Lynch-Bages has operated from a state-of-the-art gravity-flow winery designed by architect Didi Pei, reflecting substantial investment in cellars and production facilities.

The vineyard covers approximately 90–105 hectares on deep Garonne gravel soils over limestone subsoil, characterised by high drainage and heat retention that supports the slow, complete ripening of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Precision viticulture tools, including satellite mapping, are used to analyse parcels and optimise planting and management. Vineyards are structured into multiple plots to reflect soil and exposure differences. Lynch-Bages also produces a white wine, Blanc de Lynch-Bages, from a smaller vineyard planted to Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle.

Vinification

It is carried out on a parcel-by-parcel basis, with fermentations in stainless-steel vats and extended maceration. Ageing of the grand vin typically lasts approximately 18 months in French oak barrels, with a high proportion of new oak to support structure and complexity. Lynch-Bages’ flagship wine is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon with significant Merlot, reflecting the classic Pauillac blend and designed for long ageing, while second wine Écho de Lynch-Bages and Blanc de Lynch-Bages complement the range.

On the nose, Echo de Lynch-Bages reveals expressive aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and dark cherry, layered with notes of cedar, graphite, tobacco, and subtle spice. The palate is smooth and well-structured, offering flavors of dark berries, gentle earthy undertones, and polished tannins supported by fresh acidity. The finish is long, elegant, and balanced, leaving lingering impressions of fruit, oak, and spice.
