About The Winery

Château Léoville Las Cases is a prestigious Deuxième Grand Cru Classé (Second Growth) estate in the Saint-Julien appellation of Bordeaux, consistently regarded as one of the finest properties on the Left Bank and among the elite producers of the Médoc. It represents the heart of the former large Domaine de Léoville, with a documented history dating back to the 17th century and a lineage of ownership that has included several influential French families before coming under the stewardship of the Delon family, who have managed the estate since the late 19th century. Today the property is led by Jean-Hubert Delon, who also oversees Château Potensac in the Médoc and Château Nénin in Pomerol.

The estate’s vineyards extend over approximately 98 hectares, with the Grand Clos, the walled heart of the vineyard, among the largest and most celebrated plots, bordering the Pauillac estate Château Latour across the Juillac stream. The terroir is characterised by gravelly soils over sand and clay, shaped by the proximity of the Gironde estuary, which moderates the local climate, protects against frost and supports complete ripening of the principal Bordeaux varieties. The vineyards are planted predominantly to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, producing wines noted for their structure, depth and ageing potential. Château Léoville Las Cases’s vinification combines traditional Médoc methods with modern precision, including parcel-by-parcel fermentation and extended oak ageing, contributing to the complexity and longevity that define its Grand Vin and related cuvées. 

On the nose, Clos du Marquis reveals expressive aromas of blackcurrant, red cherry, and plum, layered with notes of cedar, graphite, tobacco, and subtle spice. The palate is refined and structured, offering flavors of dark berries, gentle earthy undertones, and polished tannins supported by fresh acidity. The finish is long, smooth, and poised, leaving lingering impressions of fruit, oak, and spice.
