“Tense and coiled, lovely styling here with bright and vibrant black fruits, a soft hit of creaminess alongside liquorice-laced tannins. Power and brawn, clearly structured and intense, this will age very well just a bit shy and tight right now. Dark chocolate, menthol freshness, plum and rosemary. Excellent tannic grip and I love the sweetness on the palate as well as overall freshness. About The Winery

Château Pedesclaux was founded in 1810 by Pierre Urbain Pedesclaux, a Bordeaux négociant who acquired vineyard land from Château Grand-Puy. The family was already influential in the Bordeaux trade; Edmond Pedesclaux was among the brokers involved in establishing the 1855 Classification. The estate expanded in 1883 with the purchase of vines from the Cruse family, then owners of Château Pontet-Canet.

The property was sold in 1891 to Count Gastebois and changed hands several times before being acquired in 1950 by Lucien Jugla, who restored the neglected estate and replanted the vineyards, increasing the share of Merlot. Ownership passed to his five children in 1965, with major modernisation completed by 2007.

In 2009, Château Pedesclaux was purchased by Jacky Lorenzetti, owner of Château Lilian Ladouys in Saint-Estèphe, with management entrusted to Vincent Mulliez. Lorenzetti later expanded his Bordeaux holdings with 50% of Château d’Issan in 2013 and Château Lafon-Rochet in 2022. At Pedesclaux, he significantly enlarged the vineyard through the acquisition of 15 hectares on the Milon plateau (formerly Château Haut-Milon), adjoining parcels of Château Lafite Rothschild and Château Mouton Rothschild, followed by an additional 5 hectares from Château Behere near Pontet-Canet. The estate is currently directed by Emmanuelle Cruse.

On the nose, Château Pédesclaux reveals expressive aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and dark cherry, layered with notes of cedar, graphite, tobacco, and subtle spice from oak maturation. The palate is rich and structured, offering flavors of dark berries, cocoa, and gentle earthy undertones supported by firm yet polished tannins and fresh acidity. The finish is long, elegant, and persistent, leaving lingering impressions of fruit, oak, and spice.
