About The Winery

Château Clinet is located in the Pomerol appellation on the Right Bank of Bordeaux, near the church in the center of the plateau. The estate is one of the oldest vineyard sites in Pomerol, with records of the name Clinet dating back to 1595. Over the centuries the property passed through several families, including the Constant family and later the Arnaud family, who were also owners of the famous Château Petrus. From 1900 to 1991 the estate belonged to the Audy family, Bordeaux négociants. Château Clinet entered its modern era when Jean-Louis Laborde purchased the property in 1998, and today it is managed by his son Ronan Laborde, who has overseen vineyard restructuring and modernization of the estate.

The vineyard covers about 11.5 hectares and is divided into 21 separate parcels located on slopes and small rises of the Pomerol plateau, reaching about 35 meters in elevation. The soils are a mix of gravel and clay, typical for the plateau and well suited to Merlot. The vineyard is planted with approximately 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, with a small parcel of Cabernet Franc. The average vine age is around 45 years, with some of the oldest Merlot vines dating back to 1934 in the parcel known as La Grand Vigne.

Vinification

In the cellar, grapes from different vineyard parcels are vinified separately. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks and oak vats, allowing each parcel and grape variety to be handled individually before blending. The wine is typically aged for about 16–18 months in French oak barrels, with a proportion of new oak depending on the vintage.

On the nose, Château Clinet 2017 reveals lush aromas of ripe plum, black cherry, and blueberry, layered with notes of violets, truffle, cocoa, and subtle spice. The palate is full-bodied and beautifully textured, offering flavors of dark fruit, rich blackcurrant, and hints of graphite and earth, supported by polished tannins and balanced acidity. The finish is long, elegant, and persistent, leaving lingering impressions of fruit, spice, and velvety richness.
