The Bruichladdich distillery (pronounced brook-laddie) was established in the 1880s by the Harvey brothers. The brothers built a cathedral-like, state-of-the-art Victorian still house with unheard-of six-meter tall stills.
It operated for half a century, shut down and was resurrected in 2000 by a bunch of Whisky-loving business people. Then, the shiny rebooted Whisky-making operation got an esteemed Master Distiller, Jim McEwan, previously working at Bowmore. Bruichladdich reportedly produces 1.5 million liters of Spirit every year, practicing slow fermentation and slow distillation using traditional wooden vats and huge washes made from towering Douglas Fir.
The distillery produces non-peated Bruichladdich Single Malt, Port Charlotte which is peated in the classic Islay style, the heavily peated Octomore, and The Botanist Islay Dry Gin.
The Bruichladdich Laddie Classic is the distillery`s new signature bottling and is made with 100% upeated Scottish-grown barley. This refreshingly light single malt combines an array of whiskies from 76 different casks and is a welcome take on an easy-going Islay whisky.
Matured exclusively in America oak casks, it shows off the definitive Bruichladdich traits of elegance, poise, fruit and complexity. The aroma is reminiscent of a sea breeze and is followed by honey and baked apple.
The palate is just as pleasing and has a long citrus, heather-honey finish.
