From the ancient sulphur-rich soils of Santa Paolina, Bambinuto’s Rafilu Riserva represents one of the most uncompromising expressions of Greco in Irpinia. The 2019 vintage shows depth and clarity in equal measure, beginning with layered aromas of lemon peel, peach, almond blossom, and a faint reduction typical of Tufo’s mineral backbone. The palate is taut, focused, and remarkably textural, combining ripe fruit with firm acidity and a distinctive saline note. The finish is long, savoury, and slightly smoky — a pure reflection of Greco grown at altitude on volcanic and tufaceous soils.

About The Winery

Bambinuto is a small, family-run winery in the commune of Santa Paolina — widely regarded as one of the greatest terroirs for Greco di Tufo. The estate was founded by Marilena Aufiero, whose dedication to the Greco grape has earned Bambinuto a reputation among sommeliers and wine enthusiasts as a benchmark for purity and authenticity.

Farming is meticulous and focused on expressing the land’s sulphuric, mineral intensity. Low yields, careful canopy management, and selective harvesting ensure fruit of exceptional concentration and freshness. All work is done by hand, reflecting the estate’s artisanal approach.

In the cellar, the philosophy is minimalist. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, followed by extended ageing on the fine lees for added texture and complexity. No oak is used, preserving the grape’s natural tension and the volcanic character of the terroir. The Riserva bottling — Rafilu — is given additional time before release, allowing its structure and minerality to harmonise fully.

Today, Bambinuto stands as one of the most important modern interpreters of Greco di Tufo, producing wines with precision, depth, and unmistakable territorial identity.
