Armand Heitz is the only one who has planted Pinot Noir in this appellation, which is mainly renowned for its whites. Located at the top of Montrachet, the soil here is quite poor in clay. As is often the case on this type of terroir, Pinot Noir produces a very fine and elegant wine with relatively little color.

This cuvée pairs naturally with roasted meats such as duck or pork, where the wine’s delicacy and freshness complement richness without overpowering it. It also shines alongside hearty poultry dishes like coq au vin, enhancing savory flavors with its elegant structure and aromatic lift.

About The Winery

The winemaking tradition at Domaine Armand Heitz dates back to 1857. The Domaine is located in Chassagne-Montrachet and was founded in the mid-1980s by Armand’s parents, Brigitte and Christian, initially with just 5 hectares. Armand studied oenology and decided to take over his family’s vineyards after completing his studies in 2011. He produced his first vintage in 2013 with the support of consulting oenologist Ludovic Pierrot, who had spent eight years working at Domaine Leflaive.

The philosophy at Armand Heitz is simple – work with nature. Adopting regenerative agriculture and permaculture (forms of organic farming that include growing grass cover and raising cattle), the winery makes every possible effort to reduce the environmental impact of its farming and viticulture. Practices are also driven by a commitment to achieving the highest grape quality, allowing the fruit to express the character of the terroir with remarkable purity and precision.

All of this forms the foundation for a vision that extends into the cellar. Here, Armand uses whole-cluster fermentation and minimal intervention, with new oak kept to a minimum — usually around just 20–25%.

The results are impeccable wines: reds of complexity and finesse, and whites that are elegant and beautifully balanced.
